(More customer reviews)This excellent flashlight is great for tactical, hunting, survival/ camping applications. I do not know what kind of flashlight the other reviewer is used to, but this little guy really cranks out the lumens! It is absolutely blinding and I can see 100 feet easily at night outside. I use it to check on our horses at night and it really illuminates! When I bought this light a year ago I bought it to mount on a rifle. Because the diameter is 15/16", it mounts easily to 1" clamps. Comparing to other tactical 1" lights it is a real bargain. It has some weight to it and is rugged. Trust me, this little guy is quality. I bought 4 rechargeable batteries with charger for it on ebay for $12 incl. shipping! So for under $50 I now have a light that works on and off of the weapons and is rechargeable. Sweet!

(More customer reviews)I was looking forward to this light very much, and when I got it I was very disappointed. Ok, the laser is cool, and its the best part of the light. THe led setting is ok, but the Xenon bulb, was terrible and the light beam was very weak. The Xenon is supposed to be the brightest setting for the light , and it was basically useless. The switch is a very small and is a very stiff push button. Its hard to find it if you are in the dark and in a hurry, not good for a flashlight...Plus you have to push it three times consecutively, to go through the sequence of laser only, led only, and Xenon plus laser . Another design issue I dont understand is why they used 3 AAA batteries instead of 3 AA's. The flashlight is much thicker than most AA's but it takes AAA's. THe thickness makes it quite awkward to carry and to hold.
I had thought that Streamlights were made in USA. I was wrong about that for this model,.its made in China. I didnt like it nearly as well as the Inova I bought. Read my review of that.

Streamlight 71600 JR Luxeon Reach Flashlight, Black Review

(More customer reviews)After misgivings about this (cost, mostly) and a poor experience with a cheaper Greenlee competitor product (well made, but too little illumination), I finally bought this and find that it is very well made, durable and very, very useful.
I keep it with my kit of electrical repair tools, but I've gone to get it several times when working underhood or even when adjusting something underneath shop machinery. I've even used it under cabinets when working on a reverse osmosis filter. In fact, I've started using it so often that I'm not sure where best to store it.
The magnet is good and strong, the flex cable is stiff enough to hold position and the lamp produces outstanding light in enclosed areas, allowing me to position the light and to direct it onto the problem.
I own other Streamlight products and know them to be tough, durable, sound and reliable and this seems as well made as my much more expensive Stinger LED flashlight, but more useful in the inside, underside, bottomside of things.
I wish Streamlight would include more mounting hardware (perhaps somekind of clip or clamp mount, or maybe a mini-tripod, or a good Fluke-style hook/loop system for hanging), as well as a practical belt carrier, all of which seems reasonable given the cost.

Believe it or not, this little light is almost as bright as a full sized MagLite 3-D cell, and it stays that way for 4 hours. It's like having a big maglite in a mini-mag body.
How is this possible? It uses a 1-watt Luxeon LED driven by a semi-regulated power supply, so unlike a lot of lights that start out bright and end up dim, this little light puts out a nearly constant beam for 4 hours. Best of all, it runs on inexpensive and easily available AA cells.

(More customer reviews)i bought this penlight as a backup to an identical unit that i bought from radioshack 2 years ago. its a bit pricey but very sturdy and very bright. the radioshack unit has been an excellent performer (5 stars). the one from amazon however had 2 minor flaws (and thus the 4 star review). the on switch was a bit stiff and difficult to turn on with one hand, which is necessary in my line of work. also, the cone of light had a dark spot in the middle, which won't work for my needs. the one from radioshack had neither of these problems. i have sent the amazon unit back for a replacement and will update this review when i get it back.

(More customer reviews)What kind of flashlight can you get at this price point? A really good one, that's what kind. This seemed to be promising too much for the dollar amount, but I gave it a try and I'm glad I did.
Firstly, though, about that 180 lumen rating -- she's bright, but 180 seems a little, um, optimistic.... My very informal and very unscientific assessment would be around 120 or so, which is still pretty darn bright. Throw is decent, and the beam is a good balance between spot and fill. Very useful.
The best part is the switching system. You switch between modes using just the pushbutton on/off click switch in the tailcap (as usual, a little pressure gives you momentary on, push in further to click it to constant on). Press once, and you've got high beam. Press twice within .4 seconds, you've got strobe. Press three times within .8 seconds and you cycle to low beam. I like the feel of the switch; there's quite a bit of travel before you hit the constant-on click. The strobe would certainly be disorienting to an attacker, and the bezel and tailcap have the mandatory crennelations (relief cuts) in case you want to, you know, strike somebody in the head or something. Hey, it is a TACTICAL light, right?
Check the dimensions: at 4.68 inches long, 0.90 inch at its largest diameter, and weighing less than 3 ounces with batteries (I'm going by Streamlight's data here, as I don't have a postal scale handy, but that feels about right), this is one small, lightweight flashlight. The head diameter is barely larger than the body, making it sleek and easy to draw from a pocket. The pocket clip seems pretty sturdy, and a nylon holster is included if you prefer that method of carry. Build quality is adequately rugged, and you've got a lifetime guarantee (excluding abuse and batteries).
Quibbles? Well, the anti-roll flats on the side of the head are mighty subtle, and not very effective on even a slight incline; thankfully the pocket clip stops a roll. The batteries rattle a bit in the body, which I can't stand, but wrapping a piece of adhesive tape around each battery will help to quiet that (not too much, you need to be able to get the batteries back out). And if you like a lanyard, you'll have to improvise, as there's no loop for attaching one. Other than that, I can't find anything to gripe about. There's a lot to like here, especially the switching system. It's so light and slim that I'm not even aware of it clipped in my left rear pocket. Great value, my friends. I'm gonna order a couple more!

I bought for use inside a tent, for which it is really too bright, but it's perfect on a keychain for lighting a path or door locks. Unlike many other LED keychains, you don't have to continuously press anything to keep it on, just twist the handle 1/4 turn.
The flashlight is really solidly built and extremely lightweight. Whenever they finally give up, I'll be replacing the included LR41 batteries with SR41, which cost about the same and last longer. For what you get this flashlight is a great bargain!

Since I already have 3 Streamlight flashlights & 2 headlamps; Streamlight is know by me for dependability. This is a bright flashlight with a glass lens for its size & does not need those expensive cr123 batteries. If you go camping or whatever; you can get AA batteries in almost any store. I have seen when I had to watch how much I used the flashlights that used the cr123 batteries. The strobe on this flashlight would confuse anyone shined close up in their eyes. The 3rd mode would be great for reading in the dark. It even comes with a black velcro holster to wear with you that clips to your pants or on a belt. I might add a lanyard to mine. (A small cord that is hooked to the flashlight & can wrap around your wrist.) Both ends on this flashlight have defensive bezels if needed for close self defense. (More customer reviews)The green Stylus Pro is not nearly as bright as the white models. It is only 5 lumens, not 24 lumens.
However, 5 lumens is brighter than green 5mm LEDs, which are also never as bright as the white versions. Streamlights standard Stylus (not the Pro) is only 3.5 lumens in the green version, so this is almost 50% brighter.
So it depends on from where you are coming. If you have a slightly dimmer Streamlight or Photon flashlight, this will seem like an improvement. But if you have a white Stylus Pro, it might be disappointing if you think you are getting a green version of that.
It also has one other problem. It does not use the same shape of LED as the white models, but it uses the same reflector. The green LED is flat with no clear dome over it (most flashlight LEDs have a clear lump over them to create a more even 180-degree emission pattern).
