I do not know what kind of flashlight the other reviewer is used to, but this little guy really cranks out the lumens! It is absolutely blinding and I can see 100 feet easily at night outside. I use it to check on our horses at night and it really illuminates! When I bought this light a year ago I bought it to mount on a rifle. Because the diameter is 15/16", it mounts easily to 1" clamps. Comparing to other tactical 1" lights it is a real bargain. It has some weight to it and is rugged. Trust me, this little guy is quality. I bought 4 rechargeable batteries with charger for it on ebay for $12 incl. shipping! So for under $50 I now have a light that works on and off of the weapons and is rechargeable. Sweet!

(More customer reviews)I was looking forward to this light very much, and when I got it I was very disappointed. Ok, the laser is cool, and its the best part of the light. THe led setting is ok, but the Xenon bulb, was terrible and the light beam was very weak. The Xenon is supposed to be the brightest setting for the light , and it was basically useless. The switch is a very small and is a very stiff push button. Its hard to find it if you are in the dark and in a hurry, not good for a flashlight...Plus you have to push it three times consecutively, to go through the sequence of laser only, led only, and Xenon plus laser . Another design issue I dont understand is why they used 3 AAA batteries instead of 3 AA's. The flashlight is much thicker than most AA's but it takes AAA's. THe thickness makes it quite awkward to carry and to hold.
I had thought that Streamlights were made in USA. I was wrong about that for this model,.its made in China. I didnt like it nearly as well as the Inova I bought. Read my review of that.

Believe it or not, this little light is almost as bright as a full sized MagLite 3-D cell, and it stays that way for 4 hours. It's like having a big maglite in a mini-mag body.

(More customer reviews)What kind of flashlight can you get at this price point? A really good one, that's what kind. This seemed to be promising too much for the dollar amount, but I gave it a try and I'm glad I did.
Firstly, though, about that 180 lumen rating -- she's bright, but 180 seems a little, um, optimistic.... My very informal and very unscientific assessment would be around 120 or so, which is still pretty darn bright. Throw is decent, and the beam is a good balance between spot and fill. Very useful.
The best part is the switching system. You switch between modes using just the pushbutton on/off click switch in the tailcap (as usual, a little pressure gives you momentary on, push in further to click it to constant on). Press once, and you've got high beam. Press twice within .4 seconds, you've got strobe. Press three times within .8 seconds and you cycle to low beam. I like the feel of the switch; there's quite a bit of travel before you hit the constant-on click. The strobe would certainly be disorienting to an attacker, and the bezel and tailcap have the mandatory crennelations (relief cuts) in case you want to, you know, strike somebody in the head or something. Hey, it is a TACTICAL light, right?
Check the dimensions: at 4.68 inches long, 0.90 inch at its largest diameter, and weighing less than 3 ounces with batteries (I'm going by Streamlight's data here, as I don't have a postal scale handy, but that feels about right), this is one small, lightweight flashlight. The head diameter is barely larger than the body, making it sleek and easy to draw from a pocket. The pocket clip seems pretty sturdy, and a nylon holster is included if you prefer that method of carry. Build quality is adequately rugged, and you've got a lifetime guarantee (excluding abuse and batteries).
Quibbles? Well, the anti-roll flats on the side of the head are mighty subtle, and not very effective on even a slight incline; thankfully the pocket clip stops a roll. The batteries rattle a bit in the body, which I can't stand, but wrapping a piece of adhesive tape around each battery will help to quiet that (not too much, you need to be able to get the batteries back out). And if you like a lanyard, you'll have to improvise, as there's no loop for attaching one. Other than that, I can't find anything to gripe about. There's a lot to like here, especially the switching system. It's so light and slim that I'm not even aware of it clipped in my left rear pocket. Great value, my friends. I'm gonna order a couple more!

I bought for use inside a tent, for which it is really too bright, but it's perfect on a keychain for lighting a path or door locks. Unlike many other LED keychains, you don't have to continuously press anything to keep it on, just twist the handle 1/4 turn.
The flashlight is really solidly built and extremely lightweight. Whenever they finally give up, I'll be replacing the included LR41 batteries with SR41, which cost about the same and last longer. For what you get this flashlight is a great bargain!

Just don't point it in someone's eye. I have both the regular version and the one with the flexible head. I use the flexible head model when working in the engine compartment.

Streamlight 65018 Black Stylus With White LED Flashlight Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this penlight and had to buy another brand since this one basically fails on most levels. First of all, it's really long, about two inches longer than a regular pen, so it doesn't really fit well in a coat pocket. Second, the pen doesn't work like a normal penlight, e,g, click the button it's on, click the button it's off. Instead the button has to be held in to keep the light on, or you can twist the end to keep it on. Not a very convenient set-up since it takes two hands to turn the light on and keep it on. And finally, as a diagnostic tool, the light is way too bright for most patient's eyes.
On the upside, the light is really bright. That may come in useful someday. For now, I have a very nice $3.00 penlight I got elsewhere.

Streamlight 66318 MicroStream LED Pen Flashlight Review

(More customer reviews)I own many flashlights, and this is by far my favorite using a 1xAAA format. The brightness is exceptional for the size and weight. I believe the 20-lumen rating is accurate, by comparison with many other lights I own. I also own the larger 2xAAA version of this light (Streamlight Stylus Pro), and the microstream is almost identically bright. Of course, the 2xAAA version has longer battery life, by more than a factor of 2 because of circuit efficiency and battery-capacity variance with discharge rate.
The switch type is my favored "forward" clicky, which means you can push it slightly to get a momentary-on function. Some other lights use a "reverse" clicky, which doesn't turn on until you click and release.
The one thing I dislike about both of these lights is that the pocket clip rotates with the threaded end cap, badly scratching the finish when you remove the cap to replace the battery. You can avoid this by placing a piece of cloth between the clip and flashlight body before turning the cap, but you have to think of this before first disassembly or it's too late.
Also, the clip exerts enough sideways pressure on the light body that you must be very careful to avoid cross-threading when you reinstall the cap onto the body.

(More customer reviews)I use this penlight everyday at work. This light is very bright. This is a great neuro assessment tool. Use it like a pen to check your patient's Babinski reflex. Great for checking your patient's pupils. Use it length-wise on your patient's nailbeds to check for response to light pain.
Additionally if you work long nights like I do, this is a great tool to check on your patients without turning on the lights unnecessarily. I use this to check foley and chest tube output in the dark.
Are you in the ER? Have a psych patient sleeping that you need to check on? Shine this high intensity low spread light on your patient's chest all the way from the door to observe the rise and fall of their chest without waking them up.
This would make a great gift to a new RN grad. Looks professional. Not bulky like some other penlights I've seen. Clip ensures it won't fall out of your scrub pocket.

Incredibly handy and not heavy when you find it stuck in your mouth for 20 minutes looking for something that fell into one of those crevices under your car seat that is, for all intents and purposes, a black hole. You'll have a hard time finding AAAA batteries at most stores (not that you'll need them often as it runs A LONG TIME per set), but here's a trick. Peal open a good quality (copper top) 9 volt battery and inside you'll find 6 AAAA batteries that will fit!!! I will be getting one of these for each car since I've discovered this nifty trick!! Recent advancements in LED quality and brightness levels surpasses past iterations and as of May 2008 this seems to be the best light in this size and form factor. The Stylus Pro is an improvement over the thinner but not-as-bright regular Stylus, also a great little light (and reviewed also in the video). The SP not only has a brighter "high flux" LED but its push button switch makes it one hand operable, a big advantage pretty much in all situations. For these features it is only slightly thicker than the regular Stylus but still very lightweight (only a svelte 1.8 oz). The output is also electronically controlled meaning its brightness will be more consistent and even through the life of the batteries.
