Rotozip 101225 Revolution Spiral Saw Kit Review

Rotozip 101225 Revolution Spiral Saw Kit

This tool has come in very handy for me and my workers. It's been great for removing cracked ceramic tile in showers (using masonary disk), cutting stucco, etc. If you get one, make sure you ALWAYS wear safety goggles. The one time I didn't I had a piece of stucco hit my eyeball and it was extremely painful (am fortunate it hit the white part of the eye).
What I dislike about this tool is the on/off switch. It is so bad that I could see someone having an accident with it. The switch is a slippery piece of plastic that you have to pull to turn it on and it's not easy to get a grip on.
I also don't like the cheesy plastic case. The mfg. should include a metal case or at a minimum a quality plastic case.
I haven't had great luck with the bits (they always seem to break).
Even though there are a couple negative things about this tool, I would definitely buy it again. It has become indispensable to me and gets used regularly in renovating apartment units.

Good product at a competitive price. Specifically purchased to cut out electrical box holes in plaster/lathe walls utilizing a bit intended for tile. In that application, work like a charm, although the tile bit had more trouble with the lathe than the plaster. This tool is a lot handier than I would have quessed. Will find more jobs for it. Tool bag roomy and sturdy.

I got this for a great price. And that was the only reason I like it. I found it really hard to control and make straight cuts with it. And that was even in 5/8" drywall. Sometimes it would cut smoothly through the drywall, other times it would struggle. I know why it does it, but it seems silly to me. I didn't care so much about this because the project I bought this for didn't require me to have straight cuts anyway. I was cutting holes in the drywall just to be able to get a drill inside the wall.
The thing makes a huge mess as well. The inevitable drywall dust blows EVERYWHERE because there's a fan inside the saw that blows dust away from the bearings. The sliding bracket that controls cut depth leaves black marks all over the surface you're cutting. They came off easily enough, but really?
The thing that drove me crazy was the fact that the attachments that RototZip makes DO NOT work on this saw. I bought a circle cut guide that said it worked on every RotoZip spiral saw (read the fine print, dummy!). But not this one.
I see that Dremel is coming out with a multi-role device for $99. So far it looks like the best deal. But if you're just looking to make quick, not-so-straight cuts then this will work for you.

The drywallers of America have spoken--and they asked for a router that is small, short, fast, and durable. RotoZip answered the call with the DR1-1100 Drywall Router Kit. The innovative DR1 router has a lightweight, compact design with all the power and reliability professionals need to tackle heavy-duty jobs. And with on-tool wrench storage, depth guide, replaceable motor brushes, and more, the DR1 ensures you'll get your cut-out work done efficiently and easily.
Big Power in a Small PackageWeighing in at only 2.8 pounds and measuring 7.5 inches in length, the DR1 drywall-specific router is easy to hold and packs a significant punch. Custom created for drywallers by drywallers, the DR1 is 20 percent shorter and features a smaller grip diameter than its competitors, providing enhanced cutting capabilities and control while minimizing user fatigue.
Even with its small size, the DR1 doesn't skimp on power. In fact, at 33,000 RPM versus the competition's 30,000, the DR1 is the fastest spinning drywall tool on the market. And, its six amps of power deliver up to 45 percent higher speeds under load than other models, providing more power to cut around large areas such as windows and doors. And thanks to overload protection, you can be sure the DR1 will operate smoothly every time you use it.
Chock-Full of User-Friendly FeaturesThe DR1 is packed with user-friendly features to help you complete your cut-out work efficiently. To start, a handy on-tool wrench storage compartment simplifies bit changes, and replaceable motor brushes and available service parts reduce downtime. For further convenience, the DR1 has a smart venting system that keeps dust away from you for a healthier, safer working environment.
Additionally, the DR1 features revamped XBITS that are capable of cutting more than 2,000 feet of drywall, a redesigned depth guide that allows for maximum visibility, and a durable, hardened steel lock pin encased in solid aluminum to prevent the shaft lock from breaking.
The DR1-1100 Kit comes with one 1/8-inch collet and nut, one 5/32-inch collet and nut, and 1/4-inch collet and nut. The drywall router can also be used with Zip Bits.
Durable Construction Withstands Tough JobsThe DR1 Drywall Router is built to last. For starters, a metal reinforced shaft lock, metal bearing plate, and hand polished, die-cast aluminum front housing ensure optimum durability for longer life.
Also, a low-profile hardened steel depth guide and fiberglass stainless steel reinforced body combine with a contractor-grade high-strand rubber cord to stand up to rough-and-tough conditions. A heavy-duty on/off switch is dust sealed to protect the tool from damaging particles.

RotoZip CRCT2 Circle Cutter Attachment Review

RotoZip CRCT2 Circle Cutter Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The reviews stating that the RotoZip CRCT2 circle cutter slips out of adjustment very easy, are true. And because it slips, it makes this tool useless. HOWEVER if you take about 5 minutes of your time and about 10 cents worth of material you can absolutely fix the problem. The problem is caused by the internal plastic parts slipping and subsequently moving, even though you have tightened the adjustment knob as tight as it will go. Here is the fix: take a sheet of sandpaper (I used 180 grit wet or dry sand paper) and using a compass, mark out two - 2 1/4 inch circles. Cut the two circles out of the sandpaper and using glue (I used super glue) adhere the two pieces of sandpaper together, back to back, that is to say, glue the back sides (the non sandpaper side) of each piece to the backside of the other piece. When dry use a punch and punch a 5/8 inch size hole in the exact center of the circle (use the compass again to get this a perfect size of 5/8 inch). Remove the adjustment knob and separate the two pieces of the tool, remove the rubber o-ring you no longer need it, insert the sandpaper washer over the "hub" on the bottom half of the tool, and reassemble the tool. Guess what, you are all done and now have a useful WORKING circle cutter, that will hold its adjustment every time. I have cut many circles with mine and the homemade sandpaper "friction washer" is still functioning perfectly. Why in the world the BOSCH (RotoZip) people could not come up with this I will never know. Maybe if they read this posting they will update their tool.

For general purpose cutting these are the choice. They do well in a variety of non-abrasive materials. Just don't push them hard or you will need another 5 pack right away. The bits do better if you just let the tool do the work. They are kind of hard to control if you want a nice cut. But that's the nature of spiral saws . The down cutting spiral is nice since the dust is blown away from you instead of back at your face. It's pretty simple , if you have a spiral saw , you need these bits.

it looks like a dremel flex shaft... it is a dremel flex shaft. sadly it does not have neat features of the original rotozips. ie no built in storage for the wrench or drivenut, no remote trigger on the pen to start/stop the rotozip. Aside from that it does its primary task well. Oh yeah, stupid bosch - it works w/ rebel, revolution, pro series classic, scs01 and rtm01.

RotoZip RZ20-4500 120-Volt Spiral Saw System Review

RotoZip RZ20-4500 120-Volt Spiral Saw System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed to remove a linoleum floor along with it's underlayment so I could install a hardwood floor in a kitchen. Cutting the underlayment under the toe-kick areas of the cabinets looked like it was going to be a problem. I considered the Crain Tools Toe-Kick Saw but the design was such that I worried about possible kick back tearing up the cabinets and, possibly, my flesh. This tool with the ZipMate Right Angle Attachment, XSHIELD Flush Guard Attachment and XW-WD1 looked like it would handle the task so I ordered this set.
The setup worked pretty well. I had to modify the XSHIELD to make the contraption fit under the toe-kick (see photo). This no doubt voids the warranty but it worked. If the saw blade was smaller in diameter and the XHIELD proportionately smaller, this would not have been necessary. Cutting went very quickly to within a couple of inches of inside corners. The corners still had to be chiseled. The XSHIELD rotates so that you can cut into either left or right corners. It is preferable to cut against the rotation of the blade like would be done with a circular saw. The XW-WD1 does not dig in like a toothed blade so you can cut with the rotation of the blade without having the tool pulled out of your hands. Cutting wasn't perfectly flush but was close enough (about 0.040"). Hit a couple of hidden nails but the XW-WD1 went through them without itself being destroyed.
I've cut out some rough window openings using the RZ20 and the XB-MPGP2 Tracing Bit. The technique is the same as cutting drywall for outlet boxes. Just let the bit ride on the framing while the cutter runs through the OSB. The resulting openings were much smoother than using a saw. Makes the window installers and finish carpenters happy.
I also own a DeWalt DW660 that was my basis of comparison for this tool. So far, I like the RotoZip much better. RotoZip has a much better variety of accessories available making the tool more versatile. RotoZip's 5/32" bits are also a plus. DeWalt only has 1/8" and 1/4" bits available. The 1/8" bits break too easily in anything harder to cut than gypsum board. The 1/4" bits cut too big a kerf. The 5/32" size is a nice balance. The three-jaw chuck seemed like an advantage over the collet chuck until a couple of bits worked loose. I called RotoZip about the problem that I was having. They said that they had not had any other reports of this and would send a new chuck. It arrived in two days! The new chuck has held the bits without problem.
While out purchasing some additional cutters at the local Orange box store, I saw this same promotional set at about the same price. If you can't wait for delivery, check it out.

Next, an X-SHIELD flush-guard attachment and XWHEEL fit the ZipMate to deliver flush cuts. And made from high-speed steel, a Multipurpose XBIT allows you to cut a variety of materials--everything from wood to fiberglass. This kit also comes with a wall tile XBIT with a unique diamond-grit edge that cuts most tile and masonry.
Big Power in a Small PackageAt just 3.4 pounds, the RZ20 is compact, lightweight, and easy to control. Even with its small size, however, the RZ20 doesn't skimp on power. Chock-Full of User-Friendly FeaturesThe RZ20 is packed with user-friendly features that provide flexibility and comfort. To start, a 10-foot rubber cord gives you plenty of length as you move around the jobsite. Additionally, a quick-release foot can be adjusted for cuts up to one-inch deep, making it a snap to transition from job to job.
What's more, a soft grip body ensures all-day comfort and control. For further ease of use, a quick-release detachable handle has on-board bit, wrench, and collet storage--no more hunting around for an elusive tool or bit. Additionally, a three-jaw chuck makes for quick, easy bit changes.
And to top it all off, an integrated LED work light illuminates the rotating bit and provides improved visibility of the cutting area, even when working in dark or enclosed spaces.
Constructed to Withstand the Toughest JobsReady for the toughest jobsite, the RZ20 is built to last. It boasts a metal bezel that strengthens the spindle lock for longer tool life, as well as internal structural ribs that prevent spindle lock failure and fan slippage. Arrived on time, everything as advertised, works great. This is an 'intense' tool that really 'rips' (it's not for the faint at heart). Accessories are expensive, though. Note that it creates a TREMENDOUS amount of dust. I made the mistake of cutting through tile and grout around a kitchen sink (a small job) without completely blocking off the area...the dust travelled into every nook and cranny througout the house, even into the back rooms! (I got into big trouble from the wife for that one.) Other than that, it's a tool I'm happy to have.

Bought this item to cut Hardboard and tile on my bathroom remodel. It arrived quickly and was out of the box and cutting in short order. It was easy to setup and use. Sight through the guide was no problem. I could follow the cut in progress O.K. Changing bits is fast and easy although I did have to use the supplied wrench to tighten the bit, hand collet was not always tight enough, no problem. I felt the power on this unit was more then required for the job. It never slowed even in the tile, which it cut like butter---really! It took the work out of work for me. Good price and I didn't need a box to keep it in so why pay for one. It was as advertised.

RotoZip RZ05-1100 RZ5 5 Amp 30,000 RPM Spiral Saw with 3 Jaw Chuck, 1 Sabrecut Bit, and 2 Guidepoint Bits Review

RotoZip RZ05-1100 RZ5 5 Amp 30,000 RPM Spiral Saw with 3 Jaw Chuck, 1 Sabrecut Bit, and 2 Guidepoint Bits
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this locally when installing a trash compactor into existing cabinets in place of a jig saw. I usually buy DeWalt, but the store clerk seemed knowledgeable and recommended this unit. I bought it with extra SZ05 Sabrecut wood bits.
Very good power, no complaints about the grip. Sort of like a Dremel on steroids. I had problems controlling it making long straight line cuts and eventually used my Sawzall to clean them up. I also had problems making small curved cuts (half inch wide, quarter inch high) in wood. This will probably be less of a problem with practice.
Cutting through about 1/2" oak is probably near the limits of RZ05 capabilities. The same size particle board presented no problems.
Wrenchless bit change is good, but...when starting a cut at an angle, as recommended in the manual, it's really easy to angle the plastic bit grip into the work surface, at which point the red bit grip melts and spatters plastic all over the work surface. Very quickly, I might add. This needs some re-design IMHO.
Gravity will pull out the bit on vertical cuts (i.e. bit at bottom) until one learns how tight to make the chuck. In some cases, and I haven't figured out why yet, the chuck unthreads from the threaded drive shaft when trying to loosen it with no bit in place. This was noted in another review.
Case is good, but it seems large for the RZ05 by itself. I guess if one buys the full complement of accessories, it will be needed.
It comes with a good little accessory bit holder, but packages of extra bits don't fit, only the bits themselves. This makes it difficult to separate new bits by type.
My recommendations:
1. If you are a professional, this thing will probably live up to the Rotozip reputation.
2. If you are a weekend do-it-yourselfer, I think the RZ05 has limitations for the casual user. I strongly advise practice cuts with this unit before doing any serious work with it.
3. Use two hands! It can kick back, and nicked my finger when I was using it one-handed. Gloves probably will not help in this situation. Eye protection is, as always, important. I'm probably guilty of using my Dremel habits with this, and the RZ05 is a much more serious package. Ear protection is a must. (I use Howard Leight 33dB foamies.)
4. I think I'm going to buy the ROTOZIP Straight Edge Guide Model SEG1 to help with the straight cuts and the RotoZip RZVAC1 Dust Extraction Adapter Kit. This generates a lot of dust. Search Amazon for them.
Would I buy it again? Yes, but the reconditioned units from Amazon are probably better for the do-it-yourselfer. It's hard to say, since everyone's experience varies.

RotoZip #RZMET2 2PK Metal Cut-Off Wheel Review

RotoZip #RZMET2 2PK Metal Cut-Off Wheel

I have used this metal cutting disk with my Zipmate on the Rebel model Rotozip. I found that it's average at cutting sheet metal roofing but works wonderfully on synthetic compsites like fiberglass and vinyl. Do NOT use it on wood based composites like masonite; its burns them and destroys the wheel edge, too. The Zipmate works well on a Rebel, but takes some patience and practice to master. With the metal cutting wheel, it's like a little cutoff machine, but not for big, heavy iron pieces. It does best on smaller, thinner stock. Beware of blowing dust and cutting fumes when using the metal cutting wheel. Have plenty of ventilation in the area where it is used and wear goggles and a dust mask.

Rotozip XW-WD1 Flush Wood Cutting Wheel

I bought this to use for removing underlayment below toe-kicks (see my review of the Rotozip RZ20-4500 for full description). It cut through 1/2" plywood underlayment with linoleum over it with no effort at all, as expected. The pleasant surprize was that it also went through a couple of hidden nails without trashing the blade. This blade uses a bonded grit for cutting rather than teeth.
The resulting sawdust is fine. It clouds the air and floats around the work area. This could be expected so I can't downgrade the tool as a result. Keeping the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner close to the cut keeps the sawdust from going everywhere. This helps keep the homeowner happy.

Ideal for professionals and home improvement enthusiasts, the RotoZip XW-WD1 Wood-Cutting XWheel makes easy cuts in both hard and soft woods. Designed to streamline flooring jobs, the XW-WD1's dome-shaped design allows for flush cutting, and its four-inch diameter allows for cuts in wood up to 3/4-inch thick.
Note: the RotoZip XW-WD1 Wood-Cutting XWheel requires ZipMate and XSHIELD attachments for operation. These attachments can be purchased separately or in a combo pack.
Cut Faster, Cut Longer, and Cut FlushThe only flush cutting system with UL approval, the XW-WD1 features a unique carbide edge that cuts a variety of wood materials, including pine, plywood, OSB, oak, wood paneling, and laminate flooring. In fact, this wheel allows for flush cutting and standard cut-off applications in all wood materials up to 3/4-inch thick (maximum recommended thickness for hardwoods is 1/2 inch).
Use this convenient tool to cut through plywood and underlayment, and then make smooth cuts in ready-to-install linoleum or wood flooring. Built to last, the XW-WD1 will power through over 100 linear feet of laminate flooring.
