The 3-pack of carbide rasp attachments were purchased for a Craftsman brand multi-tool. They were tested to ensure they fit, but have not yet been used. They appear to be OK. The shipping was timely from this seller.

Variable Speed Oscillating Multifunction Power Tool Review

Variable Speed Oscillating Multifunction Power Tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first bought a multifunction tool, the Rockwell was the only real alternative to the Fein. I had good experience with other Rockwell products, but there was damage to the accessory case, so I didn't get to try it before sending it back. I found the original Chicago Electric single speed tool (no longer made) for such a low price that I figured if it lasted through the job I bought it for, it would have been worth it. Plus it would give me a good idea whether to replace it with a "real" tool such as the Rockwell.
That summer, I redid my windows and door frames on a good sized two story house. I used it from morning until it got dark for about two months straight. I could not think of a power tool I had gotten in a long time that came close to the versatility and sheer usefulness of that tool.
The only problems with my first one were that it was a single speed (11,000 RPM; Chicago now makes a faster single speed one) and the part where the accessories attach did not have the raised parts that went into the small holes on the blades near the center. That meant that it occasionally slipped unless I tightened the bolt with an Allen wrench so tight it was scary, but it did not come close to stripping.
It may seem unusual that I am reviewing the wrong tool, but I was so impressed with it that I went out and bought this multi speed model. It does everything the first one does and more. It is larger and more powerful, but not unwieldy. Blade attachment is easier and they remain in place among a good choice of positions. It comes with a nice case, but it could have been designed better for storing the power chord.
Since I bought mine, I've tried a variety of attachments, and have a few that I'm sure I will need but have not used yet. Nevertheless, it's not a tool that just sits on a shelf. I probably use at as often as an electric drill, which is saying a lot in the power tool world.
The advantage of a multi speed model is that it works well for sanding at lower speeds when appropriate and at higher cutting speeds when needed. It has a similar speed range to the best on the market.
Usually when I see a tool that claims to do everything, it's a gimmick and either I would never come close to using all the attachments or the tool doesn't measure up to what I saw on TV. This one was different. It exceeded my expectations in every way.
One attachment worked well to dig out silicone caulking from around doors and windows so they could be redone properly. It also served to scrape off flaking paint easily and thoroughly. There is some risk of gouging, but I haven't found anything better for that application.
Where it really saved more than its price in a single use was for plunge cutting. If you need to cut off a section of wood that needs to be left in place, it can't be done with a circular saw or jigsaw and even hand tools can't help with what I needed. Being able to easily replace a section of rotting wood on something like a garage door or door frame can pay for the tool alone compared to replacing the entire section of wood.
I was even able to cut down the inside of a door frame from top to bottom along the edge of the molding that the door closes against. Any carpenter would have told me that I would have needed to redo the entire frame for my French doors, and replacing the doors themselves would have been more practical given the same labor. But I was able to fabricate a replacement section using this tool, a router and a table saw.
It really does allow you to cut straight lines in wood freehand. A rotary "zip" style tool is an example of something that looked great on TV but had limited real life use. If you want to cut out sections of drywall to put in switches, outlets or medicine cabinets, this is the tool to use instead. And you will have no problems doing it freehand. You also have the option of nailing a board in place temporarily and using it as a guide, since you can literally plunge cut along the edge of it. But you may find that drawing a pencil line works just as well.
I've had a finishing sander for years, and it's handy for tight corners and special needs where no other sander will work. I didn't use it much and didn't think I'd gain much by having yet another tool to do the same thing. But the multifunction tool worked better than the original, and I'd recommend the finger sander as an add on. Having the tool literally already in hand when I needed to sand made me realize how flexible a finishing sander can be and I now use it a lot for that. All it needed was a quick change of attachments.
The stock attachments really do work well for jobs such as stripping linoleum and removing glued down carpet. The only job I found where it did not fully meet expectations was slicing through copper tubing. If you get up above 3/4 inch it will be slow going, and there are better tools for the job unless you need a flush cut and can keep the pipe rigid enough that it won't vibrate independently.
I've even used it to cut slots in screw heads for screwdriver use. Although a Dremel works better for that if you have one already, it's still a good tool for use in a pinch.
The biggest difference between this and other power tools is that there are so many jobs that it not only does well, I can literally think of no alternative short of demolition and replacement. I thought it would be a specialty tool for those rare tasks when nothing else works. But it's so much more, and one of the few power tools I'd hate to be without.

Black & Decker RT550M Wizard Variable Speed/High Torque Rotary Tool with 101 Accessories Review

Black and Decker RT550M Wizard Variable Speed/High Torque Rotary Tool with 101 Accessories
Average Reviews:

The only way to review this product is by comparing it with a similar Dremel model. For the price, the Wizard stacks up very well. The biggest discrepancy is in the rpms. The Dremel tool can produce up to 30,000rpms compared to only 24,000rpms for the Wizard. At max speed however, the Wizard seems to perform perfectly well. The difference is not all that noticeable. I used the Wizard for a variety of tasks and was able to perform each one easily and efficiently.

Milescraft 1008 Roto 90 Right Angle Attachment Review

Milescraft 1008 Roto 90 Right Angle Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This attachment allows the Black & Decker RTX to become a much more useful tool. It also allows for more precise control because you will have better places to put your hands.
The instructions use pictures to illustrate fitment. I found the visual representations confusing - a few words would have made the job far easier.
Nevertheless there are not that many parts and you should be able to figure out how to install your 90 degree attachment.
The one problem that I had was that the collet from the RTX didn't fit into the Roto 90's business end.
I used an 11/64ths bit in a cordless drill to carefully ream the receiver. That solution worked perfectly.
There is a 1/8 locking hole built into the Roto 90 that should be used for tightening the collet instead of relying on the RTX's shaft lock.
The drag created by the 90 does cause the RTX to run hotter. If you feel that your RTX is becoming too hot - stop working and allow it to cool down.
When in operation this attachment is worthy of 5 stars -
Issues with fitment forced me to subtract 1 star.

I purchased this based on the picture, which I thought matched the description. However, the Milescraft 1001 tool isn't remotely the same as what you see in the pictures. It is NOT a corner tool, like what is shown in the pictures. It is, in fact, a plunge drill guide for rotary tools, which is intended for use on flat surfaces, not corners. The Milescraft tool for working in corners is actually the 1002 model. DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A CORNER TOOL - do a search for Milescraft 1002, instead.

Ek Success Inscriblio Engraving Tool Review

Ek Success Inscriblio Engraving Tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was exposed to the Inscriblio while working at a craft store. I used it to etch names onto glass. It was easy to learn how to use and I love the versatility. You can etch into glass, rock, metal, wood and more. You do need to practice a bit to get a feel for it since it moves smoother in certain directions. Keep in mind that it is a tool and as with any new tool you will have to learn how to use it, learn the precautions to take(eye protection for example) and learn what its limits are. I have used it to inscribe into glass, rock and metal. Each of those materials are a bit different so again I would suggest you practice first. Take your time when using the tool; you'll find the proper speed necessary to etch the surface you're working with.
Although I have emphasized practice I still would recommend this tool for pretty much anyone. It is easy to use and you should be quick to learn it. Depending on how precise you want to be will determine how much you should practice.
A tip for when working with a flat surface like glass: print out the text you want to inscribe and keep in mind that thin lettering will be harder to work with. Tape the paper onto the surface and then slowly go over the paper and then into the glass.

Proxxon 38568 MOF MICRO Router Review

Proxxon 38568 MOF MICRO Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are no other reviews of this router at the moment, so I'll write a bit to help out a potential purchaser.
The first one I received had all the little hex screws cross-threaded in their holes, and as a result, I was unable to tighten or loosen them at all. Needless to say, I sent it back for a replacement, since it was essentially unusable. The replacement still has one cross-threaded hex screw, and while this is frustrating, I'm not going to send it in again. The hex screws on my new one were silver, whereas the previous ones were black, so it looks like this may be a known problem, and they were replaced.
Anyway, the Proxxon MICRO Router is an excellent, very well designed tool. My wood shop is a corner of my bedroom, since I live in an apartment, and as you can imagine, it's not easy to do a whole lot of woodworking without a proper facility. For most jobs I just make do. I have a quite Fein Turbo I shop vac with a HEPA filter for dust collection, which is extremely important, since I don't have a dedicated space for woodworking. I use hand tools for most things, but when you need to do something like route dados in a jewelry box, it's almost impossible without the right tool. The Proxxon is perfect for my needs. It's very small, very precise, and powerful.
When routing on top of the piece of wood, the dust collection system works very well. When routing edges, there's little you can do to keep shavings from going everywhere, but that's not Proxxon's fault. One thing I don't quite like is the plastic piece on the bottom. When changing router bits, since the little wrench they give you is flat, I have to make an effort not to scrape up the plastic around the hole with the wrench while reaching down in to tighten or loosen the chuck. Another slight con is the strength of the spring. Because of this, it's a bit tough to plunge the router down accurately without shifting things. To make up for this somewhat, there is a method to zero out the depth, then set the plunge depth with a thumbnut. Once the desired routing depth is set (in millimeters), just press down until it hits the set depth, lock it in and do the job.
Overall, it allows me to precisely do things in minutes that I would have to take days to do otherwise with hand tools, and would end up being less precise anyway, despite the excessive amount of time involved. To me, it's absolutely indispensable. With this router, and my shop vac, I have the capabilities to do quite a bit of fine woodworking, even with my limitations. I've even created a make-shift router table with some clever dust collection workings and a lot of patience. With the Proxxon inverted, I can even use it like a small table saw. Simply pop in a Dremel multipurpose cutting bit, set the fence and I'm able to make straight cuts in a fraction of the time it would take with a pull saw, and with twice the accuracy. Truly indispensable.

This is a tool that allows me to carve wood beyond the use of traditional carving chisels and gouges. Obviously, it is important to develop great carving skills thru the traditional methods. However, the Foredom rotary carving tool allows for different style of carving and creativity.
When using this tool one should allow for dust. I recommend dust collection and proper dust mask be used as the is plenty of fine dust created when working with wood. Eye protection is critically important as well.

Kawasaki 840747 9.6-Volt 176-Piece Rotary Tool and Accessory Kit Review

Kawasaki 840747 9.6-Volt 176-Piece Rotary Tool and Accessory Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the old style Dremel which was red and black with a ni-cad battery. After 10 years of use I decided to buy something else rather than buy another replacement battery for it. The new dremels use better battery technology but I don't know what they were thinking about when it comes to ergonomics. All the new dremels have funky shapes and don't feel comfortable in my hand.
So I was excited when I found this dremel-clone in a cool looking neon green. It had smooth sides and looked like it would be nice to work with. I paid $52 (including tax) at our local Meijer store. I thought it was a nice touch to have so many accessories included at such a low price.
The problem came in with durability. The gears striped out within the first 3 minutes of use, and I was cutting a soft material. I used my old dremel to cut through hardened steel, and this thing crapped out cutting drywall on it's first use. Totally ground the gears out of it. I might have just got a defective unit, or maybe they all completely suck. I wasn't willing to try another unit, so I returned it for a refund.
The good news. After I purchased this lime (I would call it a lemon, but it's green, lol) Dremel came out with a new model. I believe it is called the 8200. It is similar to the old style without all the crazy contours on the side. I decided to pick one up at my local Menards. Just for comparison sake I cut some scrap drywall for 20 minutes straight. No problems whatsoever. Not only that, it made the cuts much more easily than this Kawasaki tool. I really hate calling it a tool, since it is more of a decoration.
I love the green Ryobi series of tools, I wish they made a rotaty tool.
